The Fords are a narrow break in the river where the current thins over gravel and the land funnels into two shallow channels split by a long, stony bar. When the Pale Hand marched west in strength, they chose the Fords for their decisive push, expecting the crossing to collapse under weight alone. Instead, they found a prince who refused to yield the river’s throat, a guard willing to stand knee‑deep in the shallows, and outriders striking the flanks before the pikes could lock the crossing shut. The clash that followed carved its own memory into the water.
TACTICAL ROLE — Holding the Throat
The Fords scenario is built around restricted frontage, forced movement, and timing pressure. The defenders must anchor the islet and use the river’s choke to break the Pale Hand’s momentum. The attackers rely on pike density, beast‑rider speed, and levy mass to overwhelm the line before the defenders can stabilize. Every decision matters: when to commit to the shallows, when to rotate formations on the bar, and when to risk the current disrupting cohesion. It’s a battle where inches decide outcomes and hesitation is fatal.
