Description

Narrative Beat

The Mountain Trolls lumbered out of the cavern with thunderous steps—an awe‑inspiring moment slightly spoiled when one paused to eat a rock, declared it “vintage,” and insisted the others try a bite.

Lore

Mountain Trolls are the colossal terrors of the deep places—hulking beasts shaped by centuries of darkness, pressure, and the strange mineral magic that permeates the Under Mountain realms. Their skin is layered with stone‑like plates, their muscles knot like iron cables, and their eyes glow faintly with cavern‑light.

Under Mountain Goblins revere them as living siege engines, sacred guardians, and occasionally as very large pets. Trolls are unpredictable, immensely strong, and capable of shrugging off wounds that would kill anything with a more sensible biology. Their regeneration is slow but relentless, fueled by minerals, fungus, and whatever else they decide to eat.

They embody classic cave‑troll monsters, subterranean shock beasts, and elite monstrous units, giving the Under Mountain Goblins a devastating melee centerpiece.

Tactical Role

Mountain Trolls serve as monstrous shock units, excelling at:

Breaking enemy lines with overwhelming force
Smashing through armored infantry and constructs
Anchoring cavern choke‑points
Absorbing damage with stone‑hide resilience

Commanders field them when they need brutal melee monsters, high‑impact shock troops, or deep‑cavern siege beasts across any fantasy system.
