Chivalric Kingdoms — Peasants

Peasants are the commonfolk of the Chivalric Kingdoms — farmers, millers, herders, carpenters, and assorted citizens who, when war calls, trade tools for weapons and march under the banners of their local lord. They are not knights, nor retainers, nor even trained militia. But they are numerous, determined, and very motivated by the promise of defending their homes, families, and harvests.

Their equipment is humble:

• Spears made from repurposed poles

• Pitchforks that were definitely not designed for battle

• Wooden shields reinforced with whatever metal was available

• Short knives, axes, and hammers borrowed from daily labor

Their clothing is simple — padded tunics, leather scraps, and the occasional borrowed helmet. But their spirit is stubborn, and their presence on the battlefield is a reminder that the Chivalric Kingdoms are built not only on noble valor, but on the resolve of ordinary people.

Peasants embody the Chivalric Kingdoms’ identity in community defense, humble courage, and steadfast battlefield support.

Peasants excel in mass formation, objective holding, screening, and attrition support, making them indispensable for commanders who rely on layered formations and battlefield control.

Use them to:

• Hold ground while knights maneuver

• Form spear‑walls against cavalry

• Screen heroes and elite units

• Absorb charges that would flatten more valuable troops

• Provide sheer numbers in any chivalric warhost

They turn a knightly army from “elite” into “elite with a very determined crowd behind them.”
