Peasant Archers are the ranged levy of the Chivalric Kingdoms — farmers, hunters, woodsmen, and assorted commonfolk who trade their daily tools for bows when war calls. They are not trained marksmen, nor elite rangers, nor even particularly coordinated as a group. But they are numerous, determined, and surprisingly accurate when properly motivated.
Their bows are simple but effective:
-
Hunting bows repurposed for war
-
Self‑bows carved from local yew or ash
-
Makeshift quivers filled with fletched arrows of varying enthusiasm
Their clothing is humble — padded tunics, leather scraps, cloaks patched with whatever fabric was available. Some wear borrowed helmets; others rely on luck, prayer, or the belief that arrows travel faster than danger.
Peasant Archers embody the Chivalric Kingdoms’ identity in community defense, humble courage, and practical battlefield support.
Peasant Archers excel in ranged harassment, objective support, screening fire, and attrition pressure, making them indispensable for commanders who rely on layered formations and battlefield control.
Use them to:
-
Soften enemy lines before knightly charges
-
Harass skirmishers and light cavalry
-
Hold objectives with ranged pressure
-
Support peasants and retainers with covering fire
-
Provide affordable, flexible ranged options in any chivalric warhost
They turn a knightly army from “elite” into “elite with arrows arriving from somewhere behind the barn.”
